Natural Selection: free biology simulation

Bunnies with mutations face wolves and changing environments. Watch allele frequencies evolve.

▶ Open the simulation

Free, no sign-up. Works on phones, tablets and laptops.

The science

Individuals with traits that help them survive and reproduce pass those traits on more often. Over generations useful alleles become more common in the population. Change the environment or the predators and different traits are favoured.

Things to try

  1. Add a fur-colour mutation and change the environment to see which colour wins.
  2. Add wolves and watch which bunnies survive.
  3. Compare the population graph with and without predators.

How to use it

Open the simulation, then change the experiment live with the sliders, checkboxes and buttons in the side panel. Drag objects on screen where it makes sense, and use Pause, Step, Speed and Reset in the bottom bar to study every moment.
