Free virtual chemistry experiments
Every experiment sets up the lab bench for you and gives you a checklist that ticks itself off as you work. Real reactions, real colours, zero broken beakers.
▶ Open the Chemistry Lab🧪 Acid–base titration
Find the end-point of HCl vs NaOH with phenolphthalein and plot the titration curve.
✨ Golden rain
Make lead(II) iodide, dissolve it hot, then watch glittering golden crystals form on cooling.
🐘 Elephant's toothpaste
Iodide-catalysed decomposition of 30% hydrogen peroxide produces a towering, steaming foam.
🔥 Preparing oxygen
Heat potassium permanganate, pipe the gas into a gas jar and confirm with a glowing splint.
🫧 CO₂ and limewater
Marble + acid makes CO₂. Bubble it through limewater: milky, then clear again in excess.
🔩 Iron nail in copper sulfate
A more reactive metal displaces copper: the nail turns pink and the blue fades to green.
🌳 Silver tree
Copper wire in silver nitrate grows a sparkling tree of silver crystals.
🌈 Flame tests
Identify metal ions from the colour they give a Bunsen flame.
⚡ Electrolysis of water
Split water in a Hofmann voltameter: twice as much hydrogen as oxygen.
🧂 Electrolysis of brine
Chlorine at the anode, hydrogen at the cathode, sodium hydroxide left behind.
💥 Sodium & potassium in water
Alkali metals skate across water, fizzing; the indicator turns pink.
🐍 Black carbon snake
Concentrated sulfuric acid rips water out of sugar, leaving a smoking column of carbon.
🩸 Fe³⁺ thiocyanate test
A drop of thiocyanate turns iron(III) solutions blood red.
🟤 Halogen displacement
Chlorine water releases iodine from iodide; starch shows it as blue-black.
⚪ Amphoteric hydroxides
Aluminium hydroxide precipitates, then dissolves again in excess NaOH.
💙 Copper–ammonia complex
Ammonia first gives pale-blue Cu(OH)₂, then a stunning deep-blue complex.
🍷 Breathalyser
Acidified dichromate turns from orange to green with ethanol.
🧊 Hot & cold packs
Dissolving salts can absorb heat (NH₄NO₃) or release it (CaCl₂, NaOH).
☄️ Thermite
Aluminium reduces iron oxide in a shower of sparks and molten iron.
🎆 Burning in oxygen
Magnesium, sulfur and iron burn far more fiercely in pure oxygen.
🌋 Baking-soda volcano
Vinegar + bicarbonate + washing-up liquid produce a frothy eruption.
❌ Disappearing cross
Thiosulfate + acid turns cloudy with sulfur. Warmer means faster.
